Junior Church Choir

The Junior Choir was re-formed in 2007, and is a very important and integral part of music-making at St. John’s.

We have our own practice on Thursdays at 6.45pm. The focus for the Junior Choir is work on voice production, general musicianship, particular practice on pieces to be sung at services either by the Junior Choir on their own or with the Senior Choir, and fun – all within the context of a Christian setting.

Junior Choristers mostly come from the local area but all are welcome to this very high-quality musical experience. We are particularly keen to encourage any young people who want to develop their singing and enjoy making music with others.

The Junior Choir often sings during the Sung Eucharist on the 3rd Sunday of each month. There are also occasions when junior Choristers are invited to sing at weddings and this is a particularly good learning platform for those who wish to carry on from Junior to Senior Choir.

Life in the Junior Choir is not dull or weak. Practices are enjoyable and fun. Friendship with others of all ages, including adults, produces a fun but hard-working ethos.

Special events at St. John's, and opportunities to work with other choirs, add to the musical richness of the church and for choristers and to the weekly music routine.

Choristers often develop a life-long love of church music and a willingness to serve the church with a deep commitment.

From March 2008, we are proud to announce that three of the Junior Choristers are beginning their transition into Senior Choir, and will be attending the first 45 minutes of each senior Choir practice. Congratulations to all three!

If you are interested in your son or daughter joining our Junior Choir, please contact Nicky or Keith. We do not have a difficult or intimidating audition process but would like to know a little about your child, so do give us a call or send us an e-mail and we will do our best for your child!
